
Psalm 7 is full of ugly, violent language: swords, bows, arrows, plunder, trample. However, in the middle of all this chaos David declares, “My shield is with YHWH!”
Using poetic devices and chiastic structure, David creates a safe place for himself and us behind YHWH in the midst of death.
It is not our righteousness that has earned us a place of safety, but YHWH’s. And because YHWH is steadfast, we can walk confidently in our deliverance from whatever enemy we are facing.
